London / New York, 22 September 2026 - Promenaut, the enterprise platform that unites people and AI agents as one governed hybrid workforce, today announced its public launch, and confirmed that HSBC has joined Promenaut as a design partner and investor. Promenaut has raised $8.9M in total funding to date, including a strategic investment from HSBC.

Promenaut is in production at HSBC, delivering agent orchestration to selected, specialised workflows within the bank’s operations. These workflows currently include business case evaluation and pre-coding steps in the software delivery lifecycle. HSBC has also made an investment in Promenaut, and David Rice, Chief AI Officer at HSBC, will join Promenaut’s board.

Promenaut is designed to help enterprises run agent-enabled workflows with the governance and oversight expected in regulated environments. The platform supports permissions, audit trails and human-in-the-loop controls to help organisations manage how agent activity is authorised, executed, and reviewed. Promenaut is model agnostic and runs on any cloud environment.

The work with Promenaut forms part of HSBC’s broader exploration of how AI can be deployed responsibly across the organisation. As a design partner, HSBC is providing feedback based on its experience using Promenaut in these selected workflows.

CEO and co-founder Stephen Murphy brings more than 25 years of experience solving complex technology challenges for large financial institutions, and has helped to transform how software is developed and delivered across the financial industry.

Stephen Murphy, CEO and Co-Founder, Promenaut, said: "The industry has spent three years adding AI to processes built around people, and there is a ceiling on that - the process was always the limiting factor. Every institution we talk to has the same story: pockets of AI adoption, no shared way to see what it's producing. What changes the outcome is redesigning the underlying system - a workforce that is part human and part digital, with the controls to run it in a regulated environment. The firms that treat that as something they own will end up in a very different position to those that don't."
David Rice, Chief AI Officer, HSBC, said: “As AI becomes increasingly embedded across financial services, the opportunity is not simply to deploy more AI, but to do so in a way that is controlled, accountable and measurable. For HSBC, that means maintaining clear human oversight and understanding how AI-enabled work is performed, by whom, and under what authority. Our investment in Promenaut and our work as a design partner reflect our belief that strong orchestration and governance are essential to scaling agent-enabled workflows safely across the enterprise.”

Promenaut’s immediate focus is financial services - where governance requirements are highest and the stakes of getting AI wrong are greatest - with the platform built for regulated enterprises more broadly. In industries where every agent action must be auditable and every decision defensible, realising the full potential of AI requires a unified system of intelligence.
